Mitchells’ Flexibility And Versatility In Action With Mars Birdcare

Mitchells’ project for Mars Birdcare in Australia is finally drawing to a close. Way back in June 2008 when Mars made a small enquiry for a pair of bucket elevators and a series of drag conveyors, Mitchells never expected it to be finishing up over a year later as a project more than three times the size of the initial request.

The great history between Mitchells Equipment and Mars in Australia saw initial discussions and engineering move at a relaxed pace, while the whole facility upgrade was carefully defined. Flexibility was crucial on Mitchells’ behalf during this time as many options were considered and tested.

With some of these options becoming concrete, manufacturing began in late December that year and the first couple of containers of equipment were shipped in March 2009. The batching and surge hoppers requested were designed and constructed in modular form to allow for minimal installation onsite.

However, the project was still far from over with further orders already in place, and engineering efforts shifting from processing to accessibility. Mitchells manufacturing versatility allowed Mars to continue working with the same team to produce the required access structures to the rigorous Australian standards.

The final orders for two large platforms, amongst other access structures, were constructed in Mitchells’ workshop meeting the requirements of Mars while conforming to the restrictions of container size for safe shipment. Now nearing the end of their voyage to Brisbane, these platforms according to their design will also be ready for easy and efficient installation.
